Today’s dedication is for Coby Brown’s grandmother Ruby Brooks who passed away in her battle against cancer.
91 miles today it looks like the high will be about 75, overcast, cloudy and a slight wind quartering into us. I found it interesting that 10 miles outside of Springfield and we’re back into the country again. Trees line both sides of the road and the road goes on into the distance. We’re still in farming country but the crop has shifted to corn. I guess there’s enough moisture and rain to support that.
I rode most of the day with this guy, Peyton. Young kid and he pushes me hard to keep up. Of course I’ll never admit it I’ll just let him think that he has to work to stay with me. L O L
We sent the first group out of the hotel at 7 AM the second group left at 7:30 then we loaded the bags in the truck and Peyton and I took off to catch up. We didn’t get very far and he managed to snag a fishhook in his tire. It was barbed so he couldn’t pull it out backwards and the eye of the hook was too big to pull it forward. We just kind of worked it for a while and managed to get the barb through the tire and the fishhook out. It seems most of the day we were sufficiently behind the group and we weren’t really concerned about catching them. We were just enjoying the days ride. Lots of farmland and wide-open acreage.
About 5 miles from the first rest up we managed to catch up with them. So we just kind of latched onto their group and rode with them the last 5 miles.
After the rest stop we just took off on our own and let them do the wrong thing. We got off some of the main roads and onto chip and seal. Boy do I not like this stuff it’s so rough it just vibrates your teeth loose. The guy in front of me is an ex- Navy pilot by the name of Odie, and he rides a recumbent.
The farms are becoming more picturesque the driveways and lawns are well manicured, I really liked this layout but it doesn’t show the whole thing. Sorry about that.
Luckily after the ride my room was ready so I went up and showered real quick then threw my clothes in the wash and then crossed the street to a Chinese buffet. It was very good and because I was a senior citizen I got a discount. They lost money on me. Perhaps five glasses of water, a plate of sushi, a plate of rice and veggies that they cooked with shrimp and then four more plates of veggies and meat. It was very good and I was very hungry. After paying my bill I left. Sort of. I stepped outside and the rain was coming down by the buckets. So back into the restaurant and I just sat there in the chair and waited for 15-20 minutes for the rain to pass and that’s it. Tomorrow’s a rest day so there probably will not be any posting.
