7May roundabout way to blythe

It’s gonna be a long day today so coffee is definitely on the menu.

Left at 7:30 and it’s warm as we enter into a desert environment.  Kind of interesting but repetitive; I swear I saw that bush a Mile ago…. This top picture was a lemon orchard, and it’s for sale.

The bottom picture is date palms, I wanted to stop in the store and buy dates but they weren’t open.

We detoured because I10 had construction and it was unsafe so we went down near the salton sea which is 200’ below sea level.

It was pretty cool but a lot of harmful algae, it’s pretty much stagnant. I’m not sure I would count it as a vacation spot.

From there it’s on to the next rest stop, fueling and hydration.

Then it’s back on the road to the final stop.  Since we redirected we need to load all the bikes and people into vans and the truck to cross over the part of I10 that’s dangerous

We got them all in, no scratches or dings or marks.  It was tight though, then 70 miles to Blythe and an unload, dinner and bed.

Final day

Well this is the final day, 20 miles, most on a bike path, a meetup at Dunkin’ Donuts then a final 4 miles promenade to the Atlantic ocean....
