23may 2024, man was I disappointed…..

Today will be a short day only 40 some miles. We won’t have the tail wind but the temps will hover around mid 70.  The landscape is starting to change it’s going grain fields and farms.

I  like wheat fields, so you will get lots of pictures of them and “farm windmills”.

Musscat was a ranch and just outside of it along the fence line they had all of these green bushes with yellow tops. Reminded me of mustard but I’m pretty sure it’s not.

The first rest stop was in Hooker, Oklahoma. After Hooker it was more wheat fields all the way to Kansas.

Thus, the Kansas State line. Right on the border is a really cool house and cactus near the sign.

While waiting for everyone else to show up I got some neat landscape pictures and then, the tourists arrive lol.

Highway 54 gets pretty busy mostly cattle trucks and grain trucks

Next stop is to see Dorthy, I’ve been looking forward to meeting her.  Imagine my surprise when it wasn’t Dorothy hamel. It the wizard of oz’s Dorothy.  Well, I did manage to lift my spirits when I saw the historical marker of Coronado coming to Kansas.

For those of you who are reading and are Wizard of Oz fans I am going to inundate you with Wizard of Oz pictures.

So, notice the ruby red slippers? However, I will have to watch the Wizard of Oz again because I just don’t remember the Apple Watch and the nose ring.  I did stumble outback to where the farm implements were and saw two very nice tractors one is a Massey Harris and the other one is a McCormick. Wow very old, very cool.

From there it was on to the plane museum. I had been in there before and it was cool but I just didn’t wanna go back in again today. I did mosey around the back and saw an A7, C2, F4 and I have no idea what this one was but it looked ominous.

From here it’s back to the hotel, dinner, a good nights sleep and an 84 miler to Dodge city tomorrow.

  1. According to Google that purtty plane is an F-105 Thunderchief built the same year I was in 1964.

Final day

Well this is the final day, 20 miles, most on a bike path, a meetup at Dunkin’ Donuts then a final 4 miles promenade to the Atlantic ocean....
